The First Appointment
In your first meeting, your counsellor or psychotherapist will welcome you to the centre and make you feel comfortable to enable you to discuss your concerns. Your counsellor or psychotherapist will want to really understand your situation and give you an idea of how they can help you achieve your desired outcomes. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have in our safe and friendly environment.
Your first appointment is an opportunity for you to meet your counsellor or psychotherapist to assess whether they can help you address the issues you wish to resolve, and if further sessions will be of benefit to you.
We want to be sure that the help we offer is the help that you need. If we feel that another service may be more appropriate for your needs we will suggest alternative help for you. We are here to help and support you.
Once further sessions have been agreed between you and your counsellor or psychotherapist, you will be offered weekly or sometimes twice-weekly regular appointments. These are on the same day(s) of the week and at the same time.
Appointments for individual sessions usually last for 50 minutes. It is important for sessions to begin on time so it is important to be punctual.
Group psychotherapy sessions are held once a week for a duration of 1 and ½ hours
There is no typical counselling session. This is time for you and your counsellor or psychotherapist explore your issues in more depth and work towards your end goal. Throughout your sessions, your counsellor or psychotherapist will draw on a range of techniques that will be of most benefit to assist you.
As you progress you will discover how to create and establish new ways of addressing situations that enable you to more effectively deal with the concerns that brought you here.
